the no-fi "magazine"
no-fi interview with former adult film star
Before there was NO-FI "MAGAZINE" there was a zine an old friend of mine put out called A MIND LIKE PUMICE. In that magazine we were allowed to interview anybody we wanted to. (Not that I can't do that with my magazine, but I choose to interview good bands who need the advertising.)
Anyway, back in 1993 after I returned from my short-lived move to and from Colorado and made friends with a girl who turned out to be a "dancer." Later I found out that she was also a former porn star. Jamie Leigh or a.k.a Jamie Lee (not her real names...and NO I'm not telling you her real one, sillies!) got her name from how closely she looks like Jamie Lee Curtis. I don't know a lot about her childhood, but she used to be a street-punk who was able to get off the street by way of these films. I did this interview with her right before the fall of A MIND LIKE PUMICE and as far as I know it was never printed. So here it is in all its "glory." I was still refining my interviewing skills, so beware. Jamie Leigh starred in tons of adult films in the early nineties (and from recent checks on the web...had resumed doing so for a while). And, yes, this interview was conducted over the phone.
C = Chris Beyond (The pre-NO-FI interview person)
J = Jamie Lee (Former Adult Film Star)
C: Is "Jamie" your dancing persona or an extension of yourself?
J: An extension of myself.
C: Why is that?
J: Because it's easier for me to do what I do as "Jamie" than to do it as myself. I guess it's like my alter-ego.
C: Who do you look up to in life?
J: No one in particular. I never really look up to somebody. I pick up bits and pieces of everyone I like.
(Speaking of which...I picked up her laugh for the entire summer of 93!)
C: I do the same thing. Who's your favorite author and what's your favorite book?
J: Anne Rice and her "Claiming Of Sleeping Beauty" series.
C: What are they?
J: It's an S&M trilogy under the name Anne Roquelaure; Anne Rice's fictional name...her alias or whatever.
C: What's your favorite kind of music?
J: Alternative Rock.
C: What's your favorite group?
J: Hmmmmmm...god...that's difficult. Let's see...at the present moment it's MAGGIE'S DREAM. They're kind of like about humanity and loving the world. It's almost like 60's jazz psychedelic funk.
C: What do you think of Mr. T?
J: I think he's really lame.
C: (?!?) Why?
J: I don't know. His character is really lame. He reminds me of a cheesy wrestler.
(Maybe she forgot...he was a cheesy wrestler for a while...He even tag-teamed with Hulk Hogan!)
C: Would you ever like to meet him?
J: No. I'm not sure if I want to.
C: If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?
J: A Weeping Willow. They're so pretty. They just kind of hang there.
C: What's your philosophy?
J: Let's see..."Do onto yourself as you do onto others." I quoted that from a book called The Promise Of A New Day. It's one of those meditation books.
C: Favorite ice cream?
J: Black Cherry...it's my favorite.
C: What's your favorite movie?
J: "The Hunger" because of the lesbian scene between Susan Sarrandon and Katherine Denueve. I'm totally into vampires.
C: What's so cool about Halloween?
J: Because you get to see of all the little kids in costumes.
C: What would you like your last words in this interview to be?
J: I think everyone should stop worrying about the problems of other countries and take care of the ones right here.
C: Well put. That's very nice.
(We talked for a while longer and eventually hung up our phones.
THE END
If you enjoyed this interview and wish to learn more about Jamie Leigh. Consult your local library and ask them if they can help you find such films as EDWARD PENISHANDS, EDWARDS PENISHANDS 3, THE GIRLS OF SILICONE VALLEY, THE HINDLICK MANEUVER, and CHEEKS IV. Seriously... Go right now and ask the first librarian you see.
2007 UPDATE: Jamie Leigh has worked with performers such as Ron Jeremy, Madison, and maybe even YOU when you were drunk that one night. I haven't talked to "Jamie" in quite a while. I've heard through the greapevine that she's even had a kid at some point. I hope she's doing well wherever she is.
